Obstacles in Business Software Adoption among Small Business Enterprise
The Small Scale Business Software

In the descriptions of the great business software systems there is a tendency to forget that there are many small scale businesses that struggle on a daily basis to cope with the pressures that are placed on them by the market. The presence of business software systems can be useful in ensuring that they too have a fair chance of winning the battle against the big corporate giants that dominate the system.
In order to be successful, the small business has to try and mimic has of the desirable habits of the mainstream business software companies. For example being a small business does not excuse them from the need to plan for and deliver services to a high quality. However despite all these efforts the final result may be that the small business may fail to make an impact in the market. This article aims to look at some of the barriers that hinder small businesses in this area.
Obstacles that Prevent Business from using Business Software
- The cost of the business software projects may be too high to sustain on the basis of current profits. For example some of the quotations that are provided could take up to fifty percent of the working capital of the small scale business. Much as the business software is known to bring benefits to the company that level of costs is simply not sustainable. Some organizations attempt to limit the impact of the cost by using copied business software models but this might have some legal implications in itself.
- The lack of awareness has held up small businesses when it comes to the latest business software. Some of the business owners have never really gone to business school and will not have some of the skills that are required to negotiate this part of the market. In fact some of them do not even realize that their businesses need this type of business software overhaul until it is too late to implement any meaningful changes.
- Although it might appear to be a relatively simple process, the implementation of a business software system can be a very challenging aspect for the small business and many of them end up failing for want of the right amount of knowledge. At the same time they might afford the specialists who might have helped them to overcome the knowledge gaps that they face. Such is the fate of small businesses when it comes to business software implementation programs across the board.
- The government initiatives that are meant to encourage small businesses in the quest to get to the business software levels of other larger businesses have been ineffective. This is because the state initiatives have failed so far to divorce their own political agendas from the primary focus on the need to improve business software coverage across the spectrum. As to the blame for this trend, one can reasonably lay it at the feet of organized government initiatives.
